Sound Off! Here's your opportunity to share your wisdom with the rest of the world. Who knows? You might just have an idea that no one else has thought of.
We write this site to provide you with useful information, and a place to discuss issues that affect you as military families. And we want to encourage your participation in determining what we write about. So here's your opportunity to participate in the discussion and post your opinions with regard to various issues.
This section is called Sound Off! and you'll find a list of pages where you can provide your opinion, because your opinion counts! If there's a topic you want to discuss, and we haven't mentioned it yet (or you don't find it on the site), please feel free to suggest that topic in the form at the bottom of the page and we'll kick it off with your opinion. If its related to a conversation that's already ongoing, we'll move it to the right place.
We appreciate your interest in Military-Money-Matters.com, and invite you to return often and share your thoughts and opinions with us.
Here's your chance to Sound Off! The most recent topics will be listed at the top.
Veterans Charities: We've written several articles about veterans charities that are short-changing our nation's veterans. Now you can ask your own questions about veterans charities here, but first, please scroll down the list on that page to see if someone else has already asked about the charity you're interested in. The entries there are listed chronologically, not alphabetically, so please scroll all the way to the bottom.
Censorship in Congress: Would you believe it if we told you that members of Congress are being censored and prevented from discussing issues of concern to you and me? Isn't that what we elected them to do?
Your evaluation of the Obama Administration: Now that he's been in office for a while, what do you think of President Barack Obama and his administration? Or asked another way, "How's that Hopey-Changey thing working for you?"
Vietnam Veterans: Tell your Viet Nam stories, or post your welcome home to our Vietnam vets, and thank them for their service.
Honor Your Favorite Military Mom!: Share a story about your favorite military mom, and recognize her many accomplishments. Or share your story about the challenges she overcomes to create a stable family life despite the upheaval of the military lifestyle, and how she inspires you. Or share a funny story that shows how her sense of humor helped your family overcome one of the many challenges that are naturally a part of military life. In other words, share your favorite military mom with us!
Support our Troops: We highlight groups and individuals that support our military members and their families. If you know of someone who should be included here, please let us know!
Show Your Gratitude: Take a minute to post your message of thanks to let our men and women in the Armed Forces know how much you appreciate their service, and the sacrifices made on a daily basis by them and their families. And while you're at it, thank our vets, too.
Berkeley's Anti-Military Stance: The City Council in "Berserkely," California, home of UC Berkeley, voted to ban the U.S. Marine Corps Recruiting Station located on Berkeley Square, calling the Berkeley Marines "unwelcome intruders" and basically asking them to "Get out of Dodge." What do you think about that?
Anti-Military Activism: The rising tide of anti-military activism in the US has gone too far. Far beyond the simple exercise of their rights to free speech, these increasingly militant (ironic, isn't it?) "pro-peace" groups are now engaging in and threatening more violent personal attacks on military members, particularly recruiters, and their families and property. We know you have an opinion about that!
Actor Val Kilmer Insults Vietnam Vets: In an interview published in Esquire magazine in 2005, Kilmer describes Vietnam vets this way, "He's some punk. Most guys were borderline criminal or poor, and that's why they got sent to Viet Nam. It was all the poor, wretched kids who got beat up by their dads, guys who didn't get on the football team, couldn't finagle a scholarship. They didn't have the emotional equipment to handle that experience." Care to tell Mr. Kilmer just how wrong he is?
Val Kilmer Responds: Kilmer responded, claiming he was misquoted. "I certainly did not say those things. The writer was elaborating . . . ." Right. We asked Mr. Kilmer to make a public acknowledgment of the honorable service of all our veterans, and Vietnam vets in particular. Have you heard one?
Esquire Confirms Kilmer Quote: We received a message from Esquire's Editor-in-Chief, in response to our inquiry, saying, "The quotes attributed to Mr. Kilmer in Mr. Klosterman’s story are absolutely accurate. The interview was recorded and every quote used in the story was checked by our research department to insure that it was printed precisely as spoken." Now what do you think?
Family Security - Protect Your Family: Family security becomes even more important during military deployment. We know you want to do everything possible to protect your family, especially while you're deployed. We hope you'll to share family security tips to help protect other military families.
