Sarah Palin at Fort Hood Tonight

Former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin will sign copies of her memoir, Going Rogue, from 7 to 10 tonight (Friday, December 4) for members of the military and their families at Fort Hood. Base officials recommend people arrive early at the Clear Creek PX. The book-signing is open only to people showing military ID cards. The former Alaska governor wrote on her Facebook page that she will donate her royalties from the book sales during the stop at Fort Hood to the families and the victims of the Nov. 5 mass shooting on post that left 13 dead and dozens injured. As a Blue Star mother with a son serving in the military, Palin understands the concerns of military families, and has been a staunch supporter of our military. We like this woman, and we look forward to more good things from her.

'Tis the Season for Charitable Giving

This is a caution we unfortunately have to repeat every year about this time. As we approach the Christmas holiday season, you will no doubt receive increasing solicitations from all sorts of charities asking for your help, especially in the current economic climate. According to the American Institute of Philanthropy, U.S. military members, postal workers, and other federal employees are among the most generous givers in the U.S. That makes us even more proud of you. Not only do you give so much in your service to our nation, for which you receive paltry pay, you also give up some of that pay to help others not as fortunate. We want to remind you, however, that all charities are not created equal. Just because some charities use the name(s) of high-ranking retired officer(s), does not mean they use the donated funds in the ways you want them used (for providing services to the causes they support). So we're reminding you, before you make ANY charitable donations,
