Mr. Kilmer, and I use the term "Mr." with reservation, is a victim of his trade.

Typical of "most" thespians, he has "immersed" his relatively uneducated self into playing the "role" of many other people. Over a period of time, the "roles" develop an alter ego that the actor believes is now, really him.

He then conducts himself as if somehow portraying a person of some intelligence actually overrides reality and makes him that person. When you add the ridiculous compensation and the "celebrity" treatment by the media, its no wonder that a spoiled, "teenaged" mind would manifest itself falsely into a person of REAL merit.
